Beyond the Cup: The Many Practical Uses for Used Tea Bags
1. For Your Skin & Beauty
- Soothe Puffy Eyes: The caffeine and tannins in black or green tea are natural vasoconstrictors. Place cooled, damp tea bags over closed eyes for 10–15 minutes to help reduce puffiness and dark circles.
- Calm Irritated Skin: A cooled green or chamomile tea bag can act as a gentle compress for minor sunburns, bug bites, or razor burn. The anti-inflammatory properties can provide quick, soothing relief.
2. Around the House
- Deodorize Musty Spaces: Dried-out used tea bags are excellent natural deodorizers. Place them in shoes, gym bags, or the bottom of kitchen trash cans to absorb unpleasant odors.
- Dissolve Grease: The tannins in tea are mildly acidic and effective at breaking down grease. If you have greasy pots or pans, soak them in hot water with a few used tea bags for an hour to make scrubbing much easier.
- Neutralize Fridge Odors: Keep a small bowl of dried, used tea bags in the refrigerator to help neutralize strong food smells.
