Flushing the toilet is something most people do without thinking. It feels automatic—use it, flush it, move on. But when you look closer, especially in the case of urine alone, this habit has a surprisingly large environmental cost.
Every standard flush uses a significant amount of clean, treated drinking water, often between 3 and 9 liters. That means something as simple as a quick bathroom trip can send liters of usable water straight into the sewage system.
