Easy Homemade Turtle Cake
👩🍳 Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Bake Your Chocolate Foundation 🎂🔥
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
- In a large bowl, prepare the chocolate cake mix according to the box instructions using the required eggs, oil, and water.
- Pour the batter smoothly into your prepared pan and bake for 28 to 32 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Step 2: Poke and Flood! 📐🫗
- Let the cake cool for just 5 minutes after removing it from the oven—you want it to still be quite warm!
- Take the handle of a wooden spoon or a large straw and poke holes all across the top of the cake, spacing them about an inch apart.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the 1 can of sweetened condensed milk and half of the jar of caramel sauce.
- Slowly pour this rich, milky caramel mixture entirely over the warm cake, making sure it seeps deep down into all the holes you just created.
Step 3: Layer the Fudge and Crunch 🍫🥜
- Allow the cake to cool completely to room temperature so the liquid completely absorbs.
- Pop the tub of chocolate fudge frosting in the microwave for about 10 to 15 seconds (without the foil lid!) just until it’s slightly softened and easy to spread.
- Smooth the chocolate frosting evenly over the top of the cake.
- Immediately sprinkle your 1 cup of chopped pecans and ½ cup of mini chocolate chips evenly over the wet frosting so they stick.
