My Husband Threw Me Out Because I “Couldn’t Give Him a Family” — Eighteen Months Later, I Walked Into His Wedding Holding the Hands of Three Children

I imagined Elaine finally being quiet.

I imagined a nursery.

A crib.

Christmas mornings.

A small voice calling me Mom.

Instead, I came home to a suitcase.

Now the tiny gift box sat inside my purse.

Grant rubbed his forehead.

“I know the timing feels cruel.”

“You think?”

Savannah shifted uncomfortably inside.

Grant glanced toward her.

That one glance told me everything.

He was worried about her feelings.

Mine had already become irrelevant.

Elaine stepped closer.

“You’re thirty-five, Claire. Grant can’t keep waiting forever.”

Something inside me cracked.

I could have told them.

I almost did.

My hand moved instinctively toward my stomach.

I imagined saying:

Congratulations, Elaine. You’re finally getting the grandchildren you’ve spent a decade humiliating me over.

I imagined watching Savannah’s face fall.

I imagined Grant begging.

But then he looked at me.

And there was nothing.

No love.

No regret.

Not even basic concern.

He had already replaced me before bothering to end our marriage.

So why would I hand him the most precious news of my life simply because biology said he had a claim to it?

Not tonight.

Not like this.

I slipped the divorce papers back into the envelope.
