My mother-in-law sla:p:p:ed my two-year-old daughter during her own birthday banquet. But my husband’s first words weren’t, “Don’t touch my child.” He leaned toward his mother and said, “Mom, I told you—not in front of everyone.” I grabbed my daughter and left. Hours later, his cousin sent me the full video from across the room. It started several seconds before the slap—and showed something my husband never expected me to see.

“Mom, I told you—not in front of everyone.”

He thought the mistake was being seen.

He was wrong.

The mistake was believing there should ever have been a place where

hurting our daughter was acceptable.
