Thirty students immediately turned toward the back of the classroom.
Toward Hannah.
Her stomach tightened instantly.
She felt the familiar rush of anxiety she had experienced countless times before.
Without thinking, she pulled her hair closer to her face.
Her heart pounded.
Why was Liam looking for her?
Had someone put him up to a joke?
Was this some kind of prank?
The possibilities raced through her mind as he walked steadily toward her desk.

When Liam reached her desk, he smiled.

“The student council is organizing the winter gala,” he explained. “We’re choosing pairs for the honorary welcome committee.”
