The 2-Ingredient Baking Paste That Melts Burned-On Oven Grease in Minutes

What You Will Need:

  • ½ cup Baking soda
  • 3 to 4 tbsp Hydrogen peroxide (or warm water)
  • A small mixing bowl
  • A non-scratch dish scrubbing sponge
  • A clean microfiber cloth

Step-by-Step Cleaning Guide

1. Mix the Active Paste

In your small mixing bowl, combine the ½ cup of baking soda with 3 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide. Stir with a spoon until it forms a thick, spreadable consistency similar to shaving cream or toothpaste. If it feels too crumbly, add a few more drops of liquid; if it is too runny, sprinkle in a touch more baking soda.

2. Apply and Spread

Open your oven door fully so it lays completely flat and horizontal. This prevents your cleaning mixture from dripping down onto your kitchen floor. Use your sponge or gloved hands to spread the paste generously across the entire brown, greased surface of the glass window. Make sure the dark brown carbon paths are completely buried under a thick layer of the white paste.

The Golden Rule: Let it Sit: Once the paste is applied, walk away for 30 to 45 minutes. Do not start scrubbing immediately. The alkalinity needs time to chemically break apart the polymerized bonds of the grease. If your oven has years of severe buildup, you can safely leave this paste on overnight.

3. Wipe and Lift

After the waiting period, take your non-scratch scrubbing sponge and moisten it slightly with warm water. Wipe the glass using gentle, circular motions. You will immediately see the white paste turn a dark, muddy brown as it lifts the dissolved carbon right off the glass surface.

4. The Final Polish

Rinse your sponge out frequently with clean water to wipe away the remaining paste residue. Once the bulk of the grit is removed, use a clean, damp microfiber cloth to polish the glass surface to a crystal-clear, streak-free shine. Close the door and admire your sparkling clean, like-new oven!
