The Viral Dawn Dish Soap Hack for Grease-Free Kitchen Cabinets

What You’ll Need:

  • Blue Dawn Dish Soap (Ultra concentrated)
  • Warm or Hot Water (Heat helps melt hardened fats)
  • Two Microfiber Cloths (One for washing, one for drying)
  • A Spray Bottle (Optional, for easy application)
  • Rubber Gloves

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Create Your Cleaning Solution

In a medium bowl or a spray bottle, mix 2 cups of hot water with 1 tablespoon of Dawn dish soap. Stir or shake gently to fully integrate the soap without creating an overwhelming mountain of foam.

2. Test a Hidden Spot

Before wiping down all your front-facing cabinets, dip your microfiber cloth into the solution and wipe a small, hidden area (like the inside of a cabinet door). Let it sit for a minute and dry it off to ensure your wood’s specific finish or sealant reacts well to the moisture.

3. Wipe Down the Grease Zones

Submerge your microfiber cloth in the warm soapy water and wring it out thoroughly until it is damp, not dripping wet. Starting from the top of the cabinets and working your way down, wipe the doors in gentle circular motions. For extra sticky spots around the handles or right above the stovetop, let the damp cloth rest against the grease layer for 30 seconds to allow the soap to break down the buildup before wiping.

4. Rinse with Fresh Water

Once the grease is lifted, take a clean cloth dampened with plain, lukewarm water and wipe down the surfaces a second time. This step is incredibly important to remove any leftover soap residue, which can attract fresh dust and grease if left behind.

5. Dry Completely

Never let water sit and air-dry on wooden cabinetry, as it can seep into the grain and cause swelling or warping. Take a completely dry, plush microfiber towel and buff the wood dry to reveal a brilliant, streak-free shine.
