After 31 Years of Marriage, My Husband Started Leaving Our Bed at Night ‘Because of His Back’ – Then I Heard Him Whisper, ‘Daddy Loves You Too’

I couldn’t believe it.

“What do you do?”

“Whatever they need. Supply runs. Cleaning. Transport. Sometimes feeding.”

“For six months?”

He nodded.

“I’ve been volunteering there about six months. The overnight shifts started three weeks ago.”

“And you never once thought to tell me?”

Greg rubbed the back of his neck.

“At first, I didn’t think it mattered.”

“And later?”

His hand dropped.

“Later it felt strange that I hadn’t told you.”

“And you never once thought to tell me?”

I looked around the room.

“You are bottle-feeding a kitten named Susan at two in the morning using our son’s baby blanket.”

“She’s actually very responsive to Susan.”

“Greg.”

“You are bottle-feeding a kitten named Susan at two in the morning using our son’s baby blanket.”

He sighed.

“I found the litter behind our shed yesterday and called the rescue. They told me to watch from a distance to see whether the mother returned. She didn’t. When the temperature dropped and the kittens grew distressed, the rescue told me to bring them inside. I got Susan first, but Steve crawled deeper beneath the garden edging.”
