Crime Forum Featuring Pirro Cancelled For Second Time Amid Rift with Trump

For a city attempting to maintain public confidence in its approach to crime, repeated cancellations of a planned community discussion inevitably raise questions.

The Timing Could Hardly Be More Complicated

The latest cancellation occurred as Pirro was facing criticism from Trump over a separate prosecution.

The dispute centers on the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, where federal prosecutors initially charged several people over alleged damage to the pool’s newly installed liner.

Among those charged was David Hearn, a former Olympic canoeist.

Pirro’s office subsequently moved to dismiss the case after prosecutors obtained additional information that raised questions about whether the damage had actually been caused by vandalism.

According to a filing from Pirro’s office, the blue sealant used during the renovation had begun peeling almost immediately after the work was completed. Prosecutors argued that information received later in the investigation complicated the government’s initial understanding of what had happened.
