Homemade Collagen Boosting Powder, That Has Science Behind It
The recipe: your DIY glow powder
Makes about one month’s supply
- 6 tablespoons amla powder
- 4 tablespoons rosehip powder
- 3 tablespoons hibiscus powder
- 3 tablespoons moringa powder
- 1 tablespoon Ceylon cinnamon (optional)
- 1–2 tablespoons camu camu or acerola powder (optional booster)
Method:
- Add everything to a clean, dry bowl.
- Whisk thoroughly until the color is even and there are no streaks.
- Funnel into a clean, airtight glass jar.
- Store somewhere cool, dark, and dry — away from sunlight and heat, both of which degrade vitamin C.
How to use it
:
Stir 1 teaspoon into any of these, once a day:
- A glass of water or coconut water (add a squeeze of lemon and a little honey if the tartness is strong)
- A morning smoothie
- Fruit juice or a yogurt bowl
One tip that genuinely matters: have it alongside a source of protein — Greek yogurt, milk, a smoothie with seeds or protein, eggs at breakfast. Collagen is built from amino acids, so vitamin C works best when there’s protein around for it to act on. Vitamin C plus protein is the real team; vitamin C alone is only half the recipe.
Give it consistency. Skin turns over slowly, so think in terms of 6 to 12 weeks, not days.
The honest part: what this will and won’t do
This is where most “collagen powder” articles go quiet, so let’s be straight.
What it realistically does: supplies the vitamin C, antioxidants, and building blocks that support your body’s own collagen production and help protect existing collagen. Over a couple of months, alongside good habits, that can show up as skin that looks a little firmer, smoother, and more even. Modest and real beats dramatic and fake.
What it won’t do:
- It won’t “add collagen” to your skin — again, plants don’t contain collagen. It supports your body’s collagen-making.
- It won’t tighten your skin overnight. Anything promising an instant lift is describing a temporary surface effect, not real collagen change.
- It won’t out-work the sun. Here’s the one that matters most: UV exposure is the single biggest destroyer of skin collagen. You can drink all the vitamin C in the world, but if you skip sunscreen, you’re bailing water out of a boat with a hole in it. Daily SPF is the most powerful “collagen treatment” there is — this powder is a partner to it, not a replacement.
- It won’t undo poor sleep, smoking, or a high-sugar diet, all of which quietly break collagen down.
