I Survived the River Crash Only to Discover My Husband’s Betrayal and My Brother’s Dark Secret

Intrusion

I spread the dossier across the cracked table, the papers rustling like restless ghosts.

“Read everything,” Noah urged, his eyes flicking to the door.

Vanessa’s phone vibrated, an urgent buzz cutting through the silence.

She glanced at the screen, her face paling. “It’s… it’s Adrian’s security,” she whispered, voice shaking.

“They’ve triangulated our signal,” she said, “they’re on the way.”

Noah’s hand moved swiftly, pulling a dark pistol from beneath the floorboard.

He checked the safety, the metal cold against his palm.

I heard a distant wail—a siren, low and mournful, echoing through the trees.

“We don’t have much time,” Noah muttered, loading the gun.

Vanessa clutched my arm, her grip fierce. “What do we do?”

“We split,” Noah said, his voice steady despite the tremor in his jaw.

“You take the flash drive,” he instructed, sliding a tiny black drive into my palm.

“I’ll stay with Vanessa,” I replied, heart thudding against my ribs.

Just then, the cabin door burst open with a deafening slam.

Men in black suits stormed in, rifles glinting, faces hidden behind reflective visors.

One shouted, “Secure the area! No one moves!”

Gunfire cracked, a sharp report echoing off the pine walls.

Noah ducked behind the table, his gun raised, eyes narrowing at the intruders.

“Run!” he barked, pointing to a narrow gap between the beams.

I hesitated, the flash drive warm in my hand, Vanessa’s eyes pleading.

A sudden bang rang out, the sound reverberating like a thunderclap.

Everything froze – the men, the gun, the cabin.

And then—

Noah’s face, lit by the flash of the muzzle, twisted in terror, eyes wide as the world exploded around him.
