My neighbor taught me this trick to clean green algae off siding with 0 effort. Here’s how it works
The main trick is surprisingly simple: let the cleaning solution sit long enough to loosen the algae before you rinse it away.
You will need:
warm water
an exterior siding cleaner or oxygen-based bleach cleaner labeled as suitable for your siding
a garden sprayer or pump sprayer
a garden hose
a soft-bristle brush for stubborn areas
gloves and eye protection
Always check the siding manufacturer’s cleaning recommendations first, especially for painted wood, fiber cement, aluminum, or older surfaces.
Step 1: Protect the Area Around the Wall
Before applying anything, move furniture, decorations, and other objects away from the siding.
Lightly rinse nearby plants with clean water. You can also cover delicate plants temporarily while you work.
Close windows and doors so the cleaning solution does not enter the house.
Step 2: Rinse Away Loose Dirt
Use a garden hose to rinse the siding gently.
This removes loose dust, cobwebs, pollen, and debris and allows the cleaner to reach the algae more effectively.
