PART 2: The Wrong Flight Changed Everything

Her smile disappeared.

“Where?”

“Boston.”

For the first time all evening, genuine surprise crossed her face.

After ending the call, she stood silently for several moments before walking to a locked desk drawer.

Inside was a slim black folder.

It contained photographs.

Alexander.

Sophie.

Even Estelle.

Each image had clearly been collected over time.

Camille paused when she reached a recent photograph of Estelle holding Sophie at the airport.

She studied it carefully.

Then quietly closed the folder.

Meanwhile, the plane touched down safely in Boston.

Medical staff were already waiting as soon as the aircraft reached its parking position.

Alexander carried Sophie inside while Estelle followed closely beside them.

Doctors immediately began a thorough evaluation.

After what felt like hours, one of the physicians finally returned.

“The good news,” she said with a reassuring smile, “is that Sophie is stable.”

Relief spread across Alexander’s face.

“But there are still questions we need to answer.”

Further testing suggested that Sophie’s recent health problems hadn’t developed overnight.

The pattern indicated they had likely been building gradually over time.

Alexander looked toward the hospital room where his daughter rested peacefully.

Then he turned back to Estelle.

“I don’t know how many people I can trust anymore.”

She met his eyes.

“Start with the people who consistently put Sophie first.”

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Finally, Alexander nodded.

“I’d like you to stay.”

Estelle hadn’t planned to become part of this family’s story.

Yet something told her walking away wasn’t the right decision.

Not while unanswered questions remained.

Not while Sophie still reached for her hand every time she woke up.

And somewhere across the ocean…

Someone was already making the next move.
