Paula Deen’s 5-Minute Fudge

👩‍🍳 Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Prep Your Pan 📐✨

  1. Line an 8×8-inch or 9×9-inch square baking dish with aluminum foil or parchment paper, leaving a slight overhang on the sides. (This acts as a “sling” so you can easily lift the entire block of fudge out to slice it later!)
  2. Lightly spray the foil or paper with non-stick cooking spray.

Step 2: Melt to Smooth Perfection 🍫🔥

  • Option A: The Microwave Method (Fastest!)
    1. In a large, microwave-safe bowl, combine the 3 cups of chocolate chips, 1 can of sweetened condensed milk, and the ¼ cup of cubed butter.
    2. Microwave on high for 1 minute, then take it out and give it a good stir.
    3. Continue to microwave in short 15-to-30-second bursts, stirring thoroughly after each interval, until the chocolate is fully melted, glossy, and completely smooth. Do not overcook!
  • Option B: The Stovetop Method
    1. Combine the chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and butter in a medium saucepan over low heat.
    2. Stir constantly with a heat-safe spatula until the chips are completely melted and the mixture is totally uniform. Keep the heat low so the chocolate doesn’t scorch!

Step 3: Flavor and Fold 🥜🍦

  1. Immediately remove the smooth chocolate mixture from the heat.
  2. Stir in the 1 tsp of vanilla extract and ¼ tsp of salt until fully incorporated.
  3. Gently fold in the 1 cup of chopped pecans or walnuts so they are evenly distributed throughout the thick chocolate batter.

Step 4: Pour and Spread 📐🫗

  1. Pour the hot fudge mixture directly into your prepared square dish.
  2. Use an offset spatula or the back of a spoon to smooth out the top into a clean, flat layer. If you want that lovely, rustic, swirled look seen in , gently wave your spatula across the surface just as it begins to set! 🖼️

Step 5: Chill and Slice! ⏰❄️

  1. Let the pan cool to room temperature on your counter, then pop it into the refrigerator for at least 2 hours (or until completely firm to the touch).
  2. Once set, use the foil overhang to lift the fudge block out of the dish and place it on a cutting board.
  3. Run a sharp knife under hot water, wipe it dry, and slice the fudge into bite-sized squares. Serve and enjoy!
