The Cat Woke Her Owner Every Night and Forced Her Out of the Bedroom: The Woman Thought the Cat Had Mental Issues Until She Took Her to the Vet

The phrase “my cat won’t let me sleep” can mean almost anything. But there was no irritation in her voice—only concern.

Anna arrived neatly dressed, though slightly tense. She looked about fifty-five years old, with a strict haircut and a coat that matched her boots. She carried the pet carrier carefully, as if it contained fragile porcelain.

“This is Luna,” she said. “My husband chose her name. It’s beautiful. But at night, she’s not Luna—she’s an alarm clock with claws.”

Large eyes stared at me from inside the carrier. A big gray cat with thick fur and a calm expression. No sign of aggression.

“What’s happening?” I asked.

Anna took a deep breath.

“She wakes me up every night. Always around three or four in the morning. First, she gently taps my cheek with her paw. If I don’t react, she starts hitting harder. Sometimes she bites my hand. She pulls off my blanket. She won’t stop until I get up and go sleep on the couch in the living room. And as soon as I leave, she curls up on my pillow and sleeps there until morning.”

“How long has this been going on?”

“About three months. At first, I thought she had developed a bad attitude. Then I decided maybe the problem was my nerves. My doctor said it was stress-related insomnia and prescribed a sedative. But it didn’t help.”

Luna sat calmly beside her owner, never taking her eyes off her. I examined the cat. Her heartbeat was steady, her breathing was clear, and her weight was normal. An absolutely healthy animal.

And at that moment, I suddenly realized with horror that the cat had no psychological problems at all—and that something far more frightening might be happening.
