Their love survived the unimaginable—discover the powerful story behind Turia Pitt and Michael Hoskin in the comments 👇
In September 2011, Turia Pitt was 24 years old and living the kind of life she had worked hard to build.
She was a mining engineer, an athlete and an adventurous young woman accustomed to pushing herself physically. She was living and working in the Australian outback and competing in endurance events that tested the limits of the human body.
Then, during a 100-kilometre ultramarathon through Western Australia’s remote Kimberley region, everything changed.
Pitt became trapped by an out-of-control grassfire while competing in the race. With nowhere safe to escape, she suffered devastating full-thickness burns to 65 percent of her body.
She survived.
But surviving the flames was only the beginning.
What followed was an extraordinary medical battle, a long process of physical and psychological rehabilitation, and the rebuilding of a life that suddenly looked completely different from the one Pitt had known before.
And throughout much of that journey, one person remained beside her: her longtime partner, Michael Hoskin.
Their story would eventually become known around Australia and far beyond it—not simply as a story about romantic devotion, but as one about survival, caregiving, identity, family and what happens when two people’s lives are transformed overnight.
