My Future MIL Sewed Tiny Suitcases All over My Wedding Train Because I Already Had a 7-Year-Old Daughter – When My Fiancé Saw It, What He Did Made the Entire Room Go Silent
The room became very quiet.
“My son isn’t only marrying you,” she continued. “He’s taking on everything that comes with you.”
She gestured toward the little suitcases.
“The baggage.”
I heard Lisa beside me.
“Am I baggage?”
Whatever humiliation I felt about standing in front of a room full of people disappeared immediately.
I took her hand.
“No. Absolutely not.”
Then I looked at Brandon.
He was staring at his mother.
He said nothing for several seconds. Then he turned to the officiant.
“Give me five minutes.”
And walked out.
That frightened me more than Barbara’s stunt.
I knew Brandon loved Lisa. I knew what he’d said when he proposed. But I also knew how often he’d avoided confronting his mother directly, and for one terrible moment I wondered whether years of her comments had finally reached him.
Barbara apparently wondered the same thing, because she looked almost satisfied.
Five minutes later, the doors opened.
Brandon came back carrying Lisa’s small purple overnight bag.
She had packed it herself the night before because we were staying at the bed-and-breakfast for a few days after the wedding. She had forbidden me from checking it beyond confirming that she’d remembered toothpaste and underwear.
Brandon brought it directly to her.
“I went upstairs because there’s something in here I want,” he said.
Lisa’s eyes widened.
“You looked?”
