Step 1: Prep and Set the Stage 🌡️

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with aluminum foil or parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides so you can easily lift the brownies out later. Lightly spray the liner with non-stick cooking spray.

Step 2: Whisk the Brownie Batter 🥣

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until well combined.
  2. Add the eggs one at a time, beating vigorously after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract until the mixture looks smooth and slightly pale.
  3. Gently fold in the cocoa powder, all-purpose flour, and salt using a rubber spatula just until the dry ingredients disappear. Do not overmix—we want these ultra-fudgy!

Step 3: Bake the Base 🏗️

  1. Pour the rich chocolate batter into your prepared baking pan, smoothing the top into an even layer with a spatula.
  2. Place in the oven and bake for 18 to 20 minutes. The brownie base should be mostly set but still slightly underbaked in the very center, as it will return to the oven!
