My Son Stayed Quiet About My Mother-in-Law Forcing Him to Clean Her House – He Taught Her a Lesson on Her Birthday
For once, she didn’t defend herself.
I told her the automatic Saturday arrangement was over.
Caleb could stay home while I worked.
If he visited Judith, it would be because he wanted to.
And there would be no more five-hour cleaning sessions.
Judith looked at Caleb.
“Are you going to stop coming?”
He considered it.
“I’m not coming to clean.”
“I understand.”
“And if you need help with something, you can ask me.”
Judith nodded.
“But I can say no.”
Another pause.
“Yes.”
“And you can’t give me five more things because I said yes to one.”
That earned the faintest smile from her.
“Alright.”
For the next month, Caleb didn’t visit.
I didn’t pressure him.
Neither did Judith.
She called him a few times, but as far as I knew, she never asked him to come over.
Then one Thursday evening, Caleb walked into the kitchen while I was making dinner.
“Grandma asked if I want to come over Saturday.”
I put down the knife.
“What did you say?”
“Maybe.”
“What does she want?”
“To finish that movie.”
I waited.
“That’s it?”
“That’s what she said.”
Saturday afternoon, I dropped him off.
