My Son Stayed Quiet About My Mother-in-Law Forcing Him to Clean Her House – He Taught Her a Lesson on Her Birthday
Two hours later, Caleb texted asking if I could pick him up after dinner instead.
When I arrived, Judith and Caleb were sitting in the living room with empty bowls on the coffee table and the movie credits rolling.
On my way to the bathroom, I passed the utility closet.
The door was partly open.
Inside was the birthday cleaning kit.
The rubber gloves were no longer folded neatly.
One sponge was missing from its package.
The microfiber cloths had been washed.
Judith had been using it.
When I returned to the living room, I noticed a small pile of crumbs beneath the coffee table.
Judith noticed them too.
She looked at Caleb.
“Caleb, would you…”
She stopped.
He looked over.
Judith stood.
“Never mind.”
She went to the kitchen, came back with a small broom and dustpan, and swept them herself.
Caleb watched her.
Neither of them said anything.
A few minutes later, Judith mentioned that she’d bought a heavy bag of potting soil and hadn’t managed to move it from the garage.
She didn’t ask him.
When we were getting ready to leave, Caleb disappeared into the garage.
He returned a minute later brushing dirt from his hands.
Judith looked toward the back door.
“Did you move that bag?”
“Yeah.”
“I didn’t ask you to.”
“I know.”
