“We need to talk.”

“Not here.”

“This is a family event.”

“Exactly.”

He stepped closer.

“The board meets Monday.”

“I know.”

“They’re considering removing me.”

“I know.”

“And you’re going to vote for it.”

I looked at him.

“Yes.”

His face changed.

Not rage.

Pain.

That was harder.

“I’m your father.”

“I know.”

“I spent thirty years growing that company.”

“Yes.”

“You think none of that matters?”

“It matters.”

“Then how can you do this?”

“Because Grandpa didn’t leave me control so I could protect your title.”

“He left it so someone would protect the company.”

Victor looked at me as though I had betrayed him.

Maybe from his perspective, I had.
