My Parents Threw Me Out on Christmas—Then the Bank Saw Grandpa’s Box

I approached the reception desk carrying the box.

“I need to speak with someone in trust services.”

“Do you have an appointment?”

“No.”

The woman smiled politely.

“Most of that department isn’t in today.”

I placed the box on the counter.

“My grandfather was Henry Calloway.”

Her expression changed.

Not dramatically.

But enough.

“One moment.”

She disappeared through a side door.

Five minutes later, a man in his sixties approached.

Gray suit.

Round glasses.

Calm face.

“Ms. Calloway?”

“Yes.”

“I’m Malcolm Reed.”

“Senior trust officer.”

He looked at the box.

Then at me.

“May I ask when you received that?”

“At my grandfather’s funeral.”

“And today is the first time you’ve brought it here?”

“Yes.”

He exhaled slowly.

“Then we should speak privately.”

That was all.

No dramatic locking of doors.
